I remember growing up listening to Priscilla McGruder. My Grandma used to have the album 'McGruders Rated PG" in her CD filing cabinet and every time I would go over to her house I would pull it out and listen to it. Eventually, I "borrowed" it and forgot to give it back. Come Fly with the McGruders, Unmistakably McGruder, Livin the Good Life, are what I went to sleep listening to.
I remember the first time I saw them live. It was at General Conference in Nashville TN. in 1997 and as they took the stage, they sang "I'm Just Warmin Up". The place erupted. Hearing her sing "From Heavens Point of View" was an incredible experience, because you knew she meant what she was singing.
Someone said "Heavens choir just became more anointed, powerful, intense, vibrant, melodious, and exciting. Earth will never be the same, but then again, neither will heaven for where Priscilla steps, hallowed worship, expectancy and joy lights her surroundings. You can be sure all of heaven is aware of her presence at this moment.
Although I never got to know her in-depth personally, she influenced my life in so many ways. Musically, spiritually, she had sung with the best of the best. She knew fame and yet did not touch some of the things that come with it. Popular in the southern gospel arena, she showed that you could really still live for God, be an example, and still "stand".
Thank you so much Sis. McGruder for such an example. You will forever be in my mind and heart. And today I'm sure you are rejoicing because you really are "Home with Jesus"
